The creator of the character Alistair in Dragon Age: Origins was inspired by Terry Pratchett’s Carrot Ironfoundersson. Their behaviour is similar, hell, they even look similar, and both are actually royalty, but have been lost and raised by a kindly benefactor.

I think it’s more likely that, since Carrot is a living embodiment of the ancient Secret Heir To the Throne trope, Alistair is just based on the same ideas that Carrot was based on, rather than being based on him specifically.
